Restoring homes, dignity, and hope for elders in rural Jamaica

Rebuild Joy is a community-led initiative dedicated to helping elderly residents in rural St. James Parish, Jamaica rebuild their lives after Hurricane Melissa. The storm devastated mountain communities such as Spring Mount, John’s Hall, and Lottery; destroying homes, farms, and the basic security elders relied on after a lifetime of hard work and service.

Many elders lost more than structures.

They lost independence, safety, and the places where memories were made and families were raised. In rural areas, far from major aid distribution centers, support has been slow to arrive. Elders are now navigating displacement, health challenges, and grief, often alone.

Rebuild Joy exists so they don’t have to.

They cared for us. Now we rebuild for them.

From devastation to rebuilding, one story at a time.

An 87 year old woman with no where to call home
An 80 year old man who lost his fruit forest
A 78 year old man that lost everything
An elderly couple who lost their family home

When elders are supported, communities remain whole.

Stand with our elders. Help rebuild their lives.
